We had the joiners round this morning looking at a few minor jobs that need doing before the season proper gets underway.
after breakfast we set off to Ulverston on the look out for curtain material for the lounge at Buckle Yeat, Helen was in charge of deciding the colours because I am cluless whith these things, having said that I did know when we found the right design.
We met Ann one of my cousins in Ulverston and had a good long chat with her.

It has been a warm spring like day in Near Sawrey.
We have had a busy one today, this morning I took the car over to the garage in Torver for a service and MOT, the run over the tops and into Coniston is a trip I have done on many occasions but never tire of the magnificent scenery as Coniston Water comes into view.
They lent me a new defender which was fine but I was glad to get back into our own car.
While I was delivering the car Helen took care of the breakfast at Buckle Yeat and then we cleared all the lounge furniture, got out the paint brushes and rollers and proceeded to emulsion the walls and ceilings, we just finished and got everything back in place as the new guests arrived, a good job done.

The car passed the MOT and I made a return trip later on in the day to pick it up.
All this activity meant no time for a walk so these are some pictures from the weekend walk.

A new feature on the blog, Skype,if you are registered and you would like to make a booking or enquire about rooms just click the button on the right and call us free of charge from anywhere in the world.

A great day for a walk, the incoming guests were not due to arrive till after 4pm so we set off over the tops for a walk over Claife towards Windermere.
We went up lane towards Moss Eccles and on to Wyes Een, we then walked down towards Belle Grange, after descending for a while we took a path that climbed back up and under Scale Ivy before arriving into Far Sawrey and then along the road to home two and half hours in total.

A return to a clear sky and frost this morning but by afternoon the clouds rolled in.
I went to Kendal today for a few provisions and a hair cut.

We have just the room free tonight and are fully booked tomorrow, it goes quieter next week and we will get some decorating done.

A quiet day on the weather front no rain but gloomy all day.

A double tragedy in the lakes these last two days, a mans body found in Windermere and a climber fell 400ft off Helvellyn and had to be air lifted to hospital.

We had a short walk in between guests departing and arriving, this is Fold Farm in Far Sawrey.

We had go to the dentist for a check up this morning, our regular dentist has retired so it was off to a new practice in Ambleside for us.
Major roadworks at Clappersgate causing tail backs and nearly causing us to be late for our appointment.
We called in at Hawkshead on the way back and quickly took these two pictures.

It has been a mild dry day in Sawrey today, Hill Top looked quite busy and the car park soon filled up.

We managed a quick walk to Moss Eccles this afternoon and there is still a thin covering of ice on the tarn.
Just before we set off we met former neighbour Andrew with his wife and daughter, before he was married Andrew lived at Garth Cottage next door to us and was brought up in Sawrey, he left over 20 years ago.

Hill Top opened for the season today, normally April 1st or Easter but this year all change. There seemed a steady stream of visitors finding their way up the village.
We did put Mr McGregor out on the bench but it started to drizzle so he had to come in.
Quite a busy weekend with all but one room taken and half term is upon us so more guests arrive tomorrow.

It has been a grey miserable day so this picture is of me and Helen taken in January on top of Traglamocha in the Sierra Tejeda in Southern Spain, in the distance is the town of Nerja with a back drop of the Mediterranean.

We are back in action at Buckle Yeat this weekend.
We have had a few days away but have been busy this week getting the guesthouse all warmed up and ready for the incoming guests.

We took delivery of some new bedroom furniture the other day and what a performance trying to negotiate the the staircase, but we eventually managed after taking the bannister off, the emergency lights down and the door closers off, it was a bit like "Right said Fred" that famous Bernand Cribbins song about moving the piano,

"Tried to shift it
Couldn't even lift it
We was getting nowhere
And so
We
Had a cup of tea and"
