Near Sawrey

Friday, December 31, 2010

Another murky misty day and the snow is at last going, all the New Year gang have arrived, a few new members this year but regulars longstanding guests just the same.

Tuesday, December 28, 2010

At last there is sign of a thaw, having said that the road to Hawkshead was as bad as it has been all winter, the center of Hawkshead was like a skating rink this morning.

Wednesday, December 22, 2010

The views from the ferry across Windermere were worth the fare themselves.

Just off to bed last night at about 11pm and the kitchen ceiling shook that much I went upstairs up to Matthews old room to see if he had sneaked back home, I even went outside to check if a tractor had crashed into the side of the house.

Still freezing, these are two of many pictures taken this afternoon down on the shores of Esthwaite Water
Lots more to see by clicking on the  facebook llink

We had a great night out at the Tower Bank Arms last night, lots of locals attended and Anthony provided some excellent food and a very very challenging quiz

Sunday, December 19, 2010

No snow overnight but freezing cold, the temperature according to the thermometer on my car has not got over -6 degree C all day.
We had a walk up to Moss Eccles this afternoon which was quite a task give the conditions underfoot, we both have these crampon style fittings that you strap on your shoes or boots and they are brilliant.

Moss Eccles with a quite thick covering of ice, there were some footprints around the edge but you will not catch me venturing out onto the ice!!

Saturday, December 18, 2010

We have more snow but watching the football from East Anglia its clear to see they have much more.
Chaos on the roads and at airports all over the country today.
We cleared the car park at Buckle Yeat before it starts to freeze tonight.

Friday, December 17, 2010

We have no snow but its bitterly cold, even the lights are blue!!!

Tuesday, December 14, 2010

These are two pictures featured on  www.hawkshead-village.co.uk
In the interest of equality Helen took one and I took the other.

Saturday, December 11, 2010

These pictures are from Thursday before the thaw set in, we have lost a lot of the snow but it is still freezing overnight and the roads this morning were as bad as ever with black ice.

Wednesday, December 08, 2010

I could have taken pictures all day, there are many more on the Buckle Yeat Facebook page just follow the links on the right of this page.

More snow overnight, my early dentist appointment had to be cancelled, I didn't know whether to laugh or cry, its only delaying the inevitable.

Monday, December 06, 2010

Misty morning, misty mid-day and misty evening!
The trees have taken on a full covering of frost and although its freezing and I hate it, I have to admit it is picturesque.
Dentist today with toothache for me and back in the morning for treatment, great!! I so love going to the dentist, not!

Sunday, December 05, 2010

On the newspaper run this morning I could not resist stopping and taking a few pictures before the mist lifted, in fact 5 minutes later the mist had dispersed totally. the temperature on the car read -7 degrees at breakfast time this morning brrrrrr

Saturday, December 04, 2010

Snow all day and night and today its grey and miserable, the Hawkshead Christmas Fair however was not put off by the elements and this morning when I went down to the village to pick up the newspapers there was lots of people clearing snow and setting up stalls for the event.

Friday, December 03, 2010

Eventually the heavy snow which has covered most of the country for the last week or two has arrived in Sawrey.
The Hawkshead Christmas Fair gets underway this afternoon and hopefully people will be able to get there.
The rally scheduled for Grizedale Forest on Saturday has been cancelled.
These pictures were taken at lunchtime today and it is still snowing early evening.

Wednesday, December 01, 2010

We have some snow but not as much as in the east of the country, more is on the way as its snowing as I type.
The village is very quiet as to be expected at this time of the year and with the freezing conditions
